Introduction

St. Francis de Sales Parish is a vibrant faith community that dates back to 1948 when Father Joseph Ciesluk founded our Church with little more than a verbal decree from Bishop Haas.  For over 65 years our Church has been a strong Catholic presence for our community.  While facilities and faces have changed over the years, one thing remains the same…our commitment to Christ, to one another, and to the betterment of our community.

Our Church today is an active community comprised of over 1,200 households, the largest of eight Catholic parishes in the greater Muskegon area.  Led by a dedicated pastor, staff and a strong corps of lay leaders and volunteers, there is an ever increasing number of ways that people of all ages can live the gospel of Jesus Christ by participating in the spiritual, educational, social and service ministries of our Church.  Daily we seek to fulfill our mission statement which is “... to make God’s presence a living reality in our community and our world.”

Yet despite our strong heritage of activity and accomplishment, we are not a Church of history; rather we are called to evangelize and spread our faith in our families and in our community.  Just as our church building depicts the Church as a ship moving through time, we are all baptized into the body of Christ and must make this journey of faith as the generations before us have done and future generations will do.
